Call for papers:

Sankt Ignatios College and the Lausanne Orthodox Initiative invite the submission of proposals for this conference. We welcome papers that focus on the broad themes of worship, liturgy and discipleship.

The theme of worship arose from an Orthodox-Evangelical consultation held by the Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative in Salzburg, June 2021 where it became clear that there is significant opportunity for interaction over the theme of worship, the relationships between worship and spiritual growth, and how worship fosters interaction between and among different Christian traditions. The outlook of the conference is to promote deep interaction on the theme of worship, especially between and among Christian communities: Orthodox, Evangelical Protestant, Protestant, Pentecostal, and Catholic.

Sankt Ignatios College and the Lausanne Orthodox Initiative therefore invite proposals for papers on the following themes:

·

Sacraments, mysteries and ordinances: whilst there are differing views on the meaning and number of the rites known by Orthodox churches as mysteries, by Catholic and some Protestant churches as sacraments, and by some other Protestant churches as ordinances, diverse Christian communities see a positive relationship between the two rites of baptism and the eucharist and Christian discipleship. Here we would welcome contributions on the place of these in the spiritual formation of individual Christian believers and Christian communities.

·

Worship/liturgy and encounters with God: proposals on the broad phenomenon of worship/liturgy, and what it has to do with the experiential dimensions of discipleship. Under the aegis of this theme, we would also welcome proposals on the bodily dimensions of liturgical encounter with God.

·

Worship and devotion in the home and other spaces: how different communities promote the practice of worship in the daily life of Christians through individual and communal forms of prayer, reading, singing, and other forms of devotion involving images, objects, and the bodily senses.

·

Creativity and worship: many Christian traditions make a place for creativity in the composition of hymns, poetry, prayers, art, and architecture. We welcome proposals on the relationships among creativity, worship, spiritual experience, and spiritual growth.
