Discerning the Work of the Holy Spirit in the Congregation
The theme of our webinar, “Quench Not the Spirit: Discerning the Work of the Holy Spirit in the Congregation,” emerged from our reading of the papers submitted for the volume we are editing for the 1700th anniversary of Nicaea, within the broader dialogue between Evangelicals and Orthodox. These contributions revealed a pressing need for our churches to reflect together on clericalism; its sources and its effects on the ministries and mission of the Church today. We hope this webinar will serve as the beginning of a longer conversation about the exercise of power and authority in our churches, and about how we might better learn to listen to what the Spirit is saying to us today. Our esteemed speakers offered theologically grounded and engaging reflections on this topic from both Evangelical and Orthodox perspectives, helping to initiate this vital discussion.
