2015 Gospel as Good News

The third Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative (LOI) Consultation,  with a focus on the Gospel as Good News, was held on:

Tuesday 1 – Friday 4 September 2015 at the Sofia Cultural Centre, Helsinki, Finland

UspenskiAround 65 Orthodox (both Oriental and Eastern) and Evangelical Leaders attended at the invitation of His Beatitude Archbishop Leo of Karelia and All Finland and the Evangelical Alliance of Finland.  Many topics were considered but four of the most critical were:

  • What is the Gospel?
  • What makes the Gospel Good News?
  • How do we communicate the Gospel?
  • What next for the Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative?

This was not a conference or colloquium with specialist speakers but rather an opportunity for genuine consultation. For this reason considerable time was given to small group discussions, both formal and informal, which formed an important part of our interaction together.

Bible Study and Prayer were an important part of our time together. Each morning one of our participants led us in a Biblical reflection on the theme of the days discussions. We also had opportunities to experience the prayer and worship traditions of our different communities.

On Wednesday 2 September the Consultation had the opportunity to visit the city of Helsinki and its churches as guests of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and the Finnish Orthodox Church.
